The oldest building in the township of Sorell, the Barracks is a heritage listed colonial Georgian terrace built in 1827. The delightful building and little garden cottage have retained all the charm of the era, and have been enhanced with all the modern comforts and amenities to make your stay very comfortable. We are only 10 minutes from the airport and historic Richmond and less than 30 minutes from Hobart.
We have something to suit everyone's needs, for couples, friends and families, with a 2 bedroom spa suite, 2 upstairs 1 bedroom lofts and our gorgeous little garden cottage. Our 2 bedroom spa unit can accommodate up to 4 people, the upstairs lofts and garden cottage are suitable for couples.
All our accommodations open out to our central cottage garden and barbeque area. The garden is framed by a variety of fruit trees, from nectarines and peaches to cherries and figs and our guests are welcome to sample the fruit when in season. Stroll through the rose gardens or find a quiet place to sit and relax. Off street parking is provided for all our guests. All our rooms are non smoking, however outdoor smoking areas are provided.
Sorell is a perfect base for exploring many of the attractions of the east coast and Tasman Peninsula and less than an hour to Port Arthur. It’s a thriving town with lovely old churches, beautiful parks, fruit farms, lots of local eateries and antique shops to browse through. Sorell's colourful past is commemorated in November at the Bushranger Festival!
