Kalangadoo accommodation at its best
15 minutes from the south east town of Penola in the Limestone Coast of South Australia is an undiscovered village called Kalangadoo (aboriginal name "Big trees in water"). The town is surrounded by beautiful river red gums and it is here you will find unique accommodation known as CLOISTERS OF KALANGADOO. In its previous life it was a 1914 Presbyterian Church, which after 2 years of restoration is now a unique architectural home away from home.
The position of the property makes it centrall to the world fammous Coonawarra wine region (15 minute drive north), the world heritage listed Naracoorte Caves (50 minutes) and still has easy access to Mount Gambier and the natural wonder of the Blue Lake, its many sink holes and underground caves, as well as the Glenelg River in Victoria. A visit is an opportunity to experience a true Australian town with a typical pub (2 minutes down the road), impressive country views, outstanding sunsets and very friendly locals. In all, a ture Aussie experience where you will see sheep, cattle and horses grazing. Birdlife all around (Kookaburras etc). There are also a number of boutique businesses - organic apples, cider, wine, rose horticulture and beer brewing.
When you first enter this lovingly renovated property you are transported to the 21st century with large expanses of modernistic architecture. The ground floor has 2 separate lounge rooms (one with a sofa bed to sleep extra guests), large dining with an open plan kitchen. A laundry (with washer and dryer) and bathroom with shower, bath and toilet are adjacent to the kitchen. Under construction and adjacent to the kitchen will be a large entertainment area with kitchenette and third shower and toilet (will eventually enable disabled accommodation -0 completion date approx. mid 2019).
The upper mezzanine houses 3 bedrooms (1 queen, 1 double and 2 single beds) - all have views of the surrounding countryside through skylights. All rooms on the upper floo have views of the downstairs livinf area. The upstairs bathroom which contains double showers, double vanity and toilet are accessed via an impressive walkway (which allows full views of the downstairs living area).
