Experience the natural and cultural wonders of Kakadu National Park with Aboriginal owned and operated Ayal Aboriginal Tours Kakadu. Explore the East and South Alligator regions of Kakadu with a knowledgeable local Aboriginal guide Victor Cooper. Victor is a former park ranger and traditional owner who enjoys sharing stories about the spectacular Kakadu rock art and his knowledge of bush tucker and the floodplain country on his small group tours.
Here is the itinerary:
We will travel north across the Magela floodplains and past some of the spectacular escarpment outliers to Ubirr, one of Kakadu's major aboriginal rock art sites. Here Victor will guide you through the natural stone galleries and give you an insight into the culture associated with some of these intriguing works of art. You will see paintings of spirit characters and the famous x-ray art depicting the internal structure of some of the animals of this country.
Not far from Ubirr runs the East Alligator River, the border between Kakadu and Arnhem Land. Ginga, the Estuarine Crocodile is often seen in the river and many interesting birds inhabit the forest along its banks.
Our journey takes us west from here to floodplains of the mighty South Alligator River. We'll visit the Mamukala wetlands where thousands of birds congregate in the drier months of the year. There is a bird hide that enables a good view across the entire floodplain but a guided walk around the edges will often reward us with sightings of the less common birds and other animals.
Our next stop will be at the Bowali Visitor Centre where you can learn more about the vast lands of Kakadu and how they are jointly managed by the Traditional Owners in partnership with the Australian Government. You will also have time to visit the Marrawuddi Gallery where there is a range of local art work for sale along with books and photographs of the region.
