Singletons Retreat is located on the Hawkesbury River approximately 16km's downriver from Wisemans Ferry on the Sydney side of Sentry Box Reach.
The Cottage was built in about 1865 on one of the first settled properties in this part of the Hawkesbury River. It was originally owned by James Singleton who, with his brother Benjamin Singleton operated the biggest tidal mill from the 1830's onwards. Singletons Mill supplied flour grown from the local area which was taken by sail ship to the colony at Sydney Cove.
The area is steeped in the history of Australia's early settler's, its convict history and of the local custodian's of the land.
Singletons Retreat is set in private and secluded surroundings with waterfront access from its doorstep. It is on 40acres of arable to natural bushland and adjoins Marramarra National Park making it ideal for bushwalkers birdwatchers and naturalists.
Sentry Box Reach is considered to be one of the finest fishing locations on the Hawkesbury River. The Cottage has all the facilities and appliances a modern home could provide without the loss of its yesteryear character.
It is a 3 bedroom weatherboard dwelling with large verandahs overlooking the River, and cottage style gardens to natural bushland.
